First and foremost, the Massachusetts Center for Unexpected Infant & Child Death serves to support those who are grieving a sudden or unexpected death during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood. Our Center works to ensure that our supportive resources are high-quality, continuously available, and tailored to individual needs. Our services are offered at completely no-cost, and we are able to serve families, individuals, and professionals across Massachusetts regardless of any demographic factor or affiliation with Boston Medical Center. If you’d like to learn more about the grief support that our Center offers, please contact us.
We understand that professionals who work with grieving families may feel unprepared in how to support them. Our Center offers training and consultation to professional groups across Massachusetts. If you, or your team is interested in learning more about how to support grieving families within the setting of your professional capacity, please contact us or click here.
We are fortunate to have many local and state partners, without whom our work would not be possible. Our Center regularly collaborates with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, the Boston Public Health Commission, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, local District Attorneys’ offices, local/state police offices, and emergency medical service organizations across the Commonwealth.
The Massachusetts Center for Unexpected Infant and Child Death is a mandated member of all local and state-level Child Fatality Review Teams in Massachusetts. The Center also played a critical role in the passage of the 2008 Massachusetts Paige Victoria Perry Act, which works towards improving the consistency of training to first responders, protocols for the medical examiners, and an expansion of the social services provided to the families who suffer the loss of a child.
